Anvil Hill coal mine approvedThe NSW Government has taken the disppointing and cowardly decision to approve the controversial Anvil Hill coal mine proposal near Denman, just days after hundreds of people travelled to the Upper Hunter to spell out their opposition to the mine. Anvil Hill has become a focal point for the campaign to reduce NSW's contribution to climate change from export coal but has also been fiercely criticised for the massive loss of remnant woodland it will cause, and its impact on regionally important waterways. The campaign to protect Anvil Hill and move NSW and the Hunter away from export coal dependence is not over, but the State Government has now forced the community to take stronger action in defence of biodiversity and the climate. Send an email to the Premier, the Environment Minister and the Planning Minister to express your disappointment at their failure to heed community calls for phasing out coal dependence, and send your details to Rising Tide Newcastle to register your interest in being part of the ongoing campaign to stop Anvil Hill, stop the third coal loader, and deal with our contribution to climate change.
